What are the major turning points in your life?

A major turning point in my life started when my dad asked me which sport I wanted to play at 9 years old, and I said “tennis” thinking that it would be easy. After all, I never played or liked sports most of my life. A few weeks later I started taking tennis lessons from my coach at our country club, and after a few lessons ended up really getting it. I played some tennis for my middle school team, and only lost 1 match the whole season. Once I had gained the confidence my parents started signing me up for some low level tournaments…and i didnt win one single match for 2-3 tournaments straight. My confidence was completely crushed. I had to figure something out,so my dad studied the game and took me to the tennis courts to practice something new. When I signed up for my next tournament, I found myself playing in the finals, and playing number 33 in the state for 12u. Not knowing how the draw works,I had no idea that I was actually in the finals, and had no clue what her state ranking was.I played the match doing exactly what me and my dad had practiced all week, and I ended up winning the 6-3 6-3. When I returned to the front desk I was surprised to have been given the first place trophy.

5 years later, I am now 16 years old and I am so happy I chose tennis. It has changed me in so many ways. It gave me a competitive edge that I didn’t have being an only child. I learned how to push myself physically and grow mentally. When I was 10 I had no idea what a commitment tennis was going to be and how it would end up changing my life. It shed me into the person I am now and it was so worth it. I think choosing to play tennis was definitely one of the biggest turning points in my life.
