What are the major turning points in your life?

A major turning point in my life started when my dad asked me which sport I wanted to play at 9 years old, and I said “tennis” thinking that it would be easy. After all, I never played or liked sports most of my life. A few weeks later I started taking tennis lessons from my coach at our country club, and after a few lessons ended up really getting it. I played some tennis for my middle school team, and only lost 1 match the whole season. Once I had gained the confidence my parents started signing me up for some low level tournaments…and i didnt win one single match for 2-3 tournaments straight. My confidence was completely crushed. I had to figure something out,so my dad studied the game and took me to the tennis courts to practice something new. When I signed up for my next tournament, I found myself playing in the finals, and playing number 33 in the state for 12u. Not knowing how the draw works,I had no idea that I was actually in the finals, and had no clue what her state ranking was.I played the match doing exactly what me and my dad had practiced all week, and I ended up winning the 6-3 6-3. When I returned to the front desk I was surprised to have been given the first place trophy.

5 years later, I am now 16 years old and I am so happy I chose tennis. It has changed me in so many ways. It gave me a competitive edge that I didn’t have being an only child. I learned how to push myself physically and grow mentally. When I was 10 I had no idea what a commitment tennis was going to be and how it would end up changing my life. It shed me into the person I am now and it was so worth it. I think choosing to play tennis was definitely one of the biggest turning points in my life.

semester report

throughout this course i have learned many things this year, I have learned about dialogue, characterization, imagery, satire, authors style ,genre, for example fantasy, thriller, horror and may more.

the purpose of this essay is to reflect on what I have learned this year.

starting off with characterization, it is a direct  description in which the characters are described by the narrator, or another character.

a good example of this would be,”holly is really fast she always beats everyone on the track team.” another example would be, “Sarah is the prettiest girl in school she only won the beauty contest  5 times in a row.”

In all characterization is a very detailed description of another character told through the narrators or main characters eyes.

Secondly, character development is the author giving each character a distinct role based off of their personality, for example Jim is adventurous and charismatic, so he is the leader of the group.

Another example would be, Sally is always studying and is always in her books, so she is the smart one of the group

in all it is a form of  letting the reader know what to expect from each character through the characters personality.

One of the most of the most important thing you find in almost every single book is dialogue. Dialogue is the conversation between two or more characters in a book. The dialogue help the reader understand what the characters want and are feeling. Without dialogue you don’t feel any connection to the characters. Without dialogue books would be pretty boring since you wouldn’t get to see the characters view.

Overall dialogue is the key to all books plays, and movies.

Imagery is a way the author describes setting, sight, touch, and sound. Without imagery the book would be overall boring since you wouldn’t understand what is happening around the characters, usually the more descriptive the book the more interesting it is.

The authors style is the writing style that the authors chose and have developed. It includes figurative language, sentence arrangement, genre, and word choice. every writer has a preference. The author need to figure out what the problem will be, how it will be solved, the characters, their personalities, and the setting. Overall the authors style is how the book will be developed.

Overall I have learned a Lot this year and hope to use these to better improve my writing skills.

I wish to learn more about this in the next semester!

3 ways i can use my time bettereliminate distractions. When you eliminate distractions like TV, video games, social media, you will focus on being more productive and focus on whats more important. The best way to get yourself to become productive is to minimize what you have around you and only surround with the important things. For example if your studying for a test it wouldn’t be very smart is you sat on the same desk that you play video games, paint, or watch TV. Because then you will be tempted to open up you computer and get distracted, and start playing video games. Instead, you should sit at an isolated desk with no distractions and put only what you need on the table. Remember to do your work in blocks of an hour, its proven that your brain works better when you take breaks between your work

should unhealthy products be sold with a warning label?

Absolutely, it think that every unhealthy product should come with a

label that warns people about what they are eating. a lot of people don’t

understand what is healthy and what has sugar in it hiding the products

that are within the food is a form of marketing deception

An achievable idea for a small business I could run

This week I was introduced to a few Possibilities of ways to promote a small business that could provide me a stable source of income. (For example) a youtube channel, blogging, and selling on ebay or craigslist. I could also start with babysitting, lawn care, or crafts. These are all possible small businesses I could run. However I have particularly found an interest in arts and crafts.

So I have thought about selling some of my resin art on a website like Etsy, where it is popular to sell home made things such as arts and crafts, and wall decor. I want to start on something that I love to do and that I am good at. Doing This will increase my average annual income Significantly, as well as provide regular cash flow.

Starting a small business requires quite a lot of responsibility and knowledge about what you are doing, which will benefit me in the future. It will require knowing how to manage my money, and income. And how to package and ship the products. And I will also need to learn how to promote my product.

Life cycle of a monarch butterfly

English lesson 70

the monarch butterfly is a very commonly found in North America. its life expectancy is about 2-6 weeks on average. and its wingspan is up to 3.5-4 inches long

the female adult monarch will usually lay 1 egg per leaf. the egg will eventually hatch within 3-8 days and the larvae will begin feasting on the milkweed plants for about two weeks, and will frequently pause to shed its skin. after two weeks the larvae will be ready to pupate and will be about two inches long at that stage. the larvae will then hand upside down on the leaf and will form a silk mat for it to hang on. then the larvae will shed its last layer of skin, and will reveal its chrysalis. the monarch will slowly Develop its wings inside the chrysalis and will emerge 8-15 days later. it will hang on the remains of the chrysalis and pump fluid in its wings for shape, and will wait for its wing to dry. after the wings are dry, the adult monarch butterfly is ready to fly off.

Migration.

the monarch butterfly is a unique phenomenon, in which it’s the only butterfly to make a two day migration, just like birds. most other butterflies are able to live in colder climates, but the monarch butterfly cannot survive in the cold of northern climates. using environmental cues, the monarchs know when to travel south to escape winter. to migrate, they use a combination of air currents and thermals to travel long distances. some fly as far as 3,000 miles. the eastern population of north americas monarchs will end up migrating and overwintering in these 11-12 mountain areas in Mexico in which they will stay for around 5 months. (October to late march)

male and female.

you can tell if a monarch butterfly is male of female by looking at their lower wings. females usually have thicker black stripes. where for males, they have thiner stripes and two dots on their lower wings.

In Great Britain, a series of inventions called the industrial revolution. It started in the early 1800s, and created a “chain reaction” of productivity, New power sources, new machines, making the industries run more efficiently.

What are you 3 fav places to visit?

]My first favorite place to visit in florida.

Almost every sommer me and my family take a trip somewhere to the beach in florida.

We usually arrive at a resort, and stay for about a week. I love the palm trees, and tropical environment. I love the beach, and the water. Sometimes I find creatures like dolphins or starfish. Sometimes I find sand dollars or other fossils.

For my second favorite,I chose mcdaniels farm. It is a walking trail that I have been walking on since I was around five years old. We would always call it our happy place,we even wrote a goofy song about it. I loved it had so many trails to deviate from and would feel like an adventure every time. It had wild animals like deer, rabbits, and snakes. I don’t like the snake part though. One time we were walking down to the creek and a snake jumped out at me under the rocks, luckily it didn’t bite me though. We have had many adventures there.

My final favorite is my mom’s work. She works as a dental technician, and sometimes she takes me and my brother to her lab. I know a lot of co-workers and dentists that have worked there since I was born, so I am very good friends with most of them. She has a little corner and a tv where me and my brother can sleep and play in. sometimes i help her with work and its really fun!

why is apple pie the most American dessert

Back in the 1600, when the colonists first arrived, the apple pie was one of the first dessert to be ever made in america, long before the first independence day. The colonist wanted to do their best to distance themselves from british culture. Instead of making traditional english desserts like (scones and pudding) they started to make a new dessert that was introduced to them by the dutch immigrants back in the 1700’s. Apple pie is often associated and ate during independence day (july 4th) to celebrate independence from britain, and is now dubbed the most american dessert.
